Product Description
Version 1.0 - Released 10/25/24
This spreadsheet allows you to create built-up cross sections from rectangular elements. Elastic and plastic section properties for the built-up section are given. Visual feedback of the cross-section is provided to help you ensure you've defined the cross-section properly.
Key features include:
- Both Elastic and Plastic Section Properties
One feature that sets this spreadsheet apart from many other section-property calculators is the calculation of the plastic neutral axis and the plastic moment about each axis. Each element in the cross-section can even have a different yield stress, allowing for cross-sections built from different grades of steel. One example where this could be useful is a crane girder with a channel cap. All sections must be built and/or approximated from rectangular elements. The reason for this limitation is to allow for plastic section properties to be calculated more readily. Other section property calculators may allow for more complex shapes, but they usually do not provide plastic section properties in such cases. Most modern design codes use plastic section properties.
- Visual Feedback
This spreadsheet draws the cross-section in real time as you define it.
- Convenient Spreadsheet Format
The spreadsheet format of this calculator enables you to link the calculations to your own calculations for personalized solutions.
- This product uses U.S. customary units
- The worksheet is protected, but no password is applied. Be careful unprotecting the worksheet. Rearranging the tables could corrupt the workbook. The VBA routines running in the background rely on an expected layout and format for the tables in this workbook.
- This is a macro-enabled workbook. The VBA code running behind the scenes is proprietary and password protected.
